It’s Eurovision time! All of Europe (and bits of other continents) compete to see who can make the most pandering, bland, or head-scratchingly confusing pop song! It’s always fun.
First competitor for the title of “most bland” is the song “Sunlight” sung by Nicky Byrne.
Yup, as if it wasn’t obvious enough that this song was written with a pop music cliché generator, the video helpfully includes karaoke subtitles so we can hear AND read such gems as “Come turn me inside out, upside down,” “I’ll be your lover boy,” and “We’ll stay together, live forever.”
This song also seems to making a bunch of promises it can’t keep. I mean, “touch who you want ta” can get you into some legal trouble, and I’m not sure how many opportunities you get to be “standing out in the sunlight” if you’re in Ireland. I’ve seen Angela’s Ashes and The Crying Game, I think Ireland should lower expectations when it comes to the whole sun thing.
